This session will explore the intersection of brain injury and domestic violence including groundbreaking research from Ohio, discuss common clinical presentations, address unique considerations in working with domestic violence survivors, and highlight practical strategies for trauma-informed, survivor-centered care in medical settings.

The Thoracic Oncology Tumor Board provides a forum for the discussion of new research and treatment strategies, through continual updates of the standard of care. It is anticipated that the attendees would adjust their practice based on clinical evidence and outcomes discussed at this tumor board. We continue to evaluate our attendees using the OSU RSS electronic evaluation format to measure all of goals.

As students begin interacting with patients, developing strong communication skills becomes essential—not just for gathering clinical information, but for building trust, fostering therapeutic relationships, and ensuring patients understand their care.
Effective communication is a core clinical skill that directly impacts patient outcomes. It involves more than speaking clearly; it requires empathy, active listening, and the ability to tailor messages to diverse patient populations, including those with limited health literacy. Techniques such as the "teach-back" method are practical, evidence-based strategies that help ensure patients truly understand their diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.

- Discuss the history and principles of health screening.
- Identify standard current screens and their sources.
- Describe the impact of screening on individual patients and a population.
- Evaluate tools and techniques to improve screening compliance.
Event Objectives
- Discuss the importance of pediatric screenings: Participants will learn about the critical role of pediatric screenings in primary care, including the benefits of early detection and intervention for various childhood conditions and developmental issues.
- Identify and utilize available screening tools: Attendees will become familiar with various validated screening tools used to assess pediatric health, such as growth charts, developmental screening tools (e.g., Ages and Stages Questionnaires), and vision and hearing tests, and understand how to effectively implement these tools in clinical practice.
- Develop action plans for positive screening results: Participants will gain knowledge on the appropriate steps to take when a child screens positive for a health or developmental condition, including referral processes, treatment options, and follow-up care to ensure comprehensive support for the child and their family.

In this quarterly series, experts from the Division of Hematology at the OSUCCC – James will share the latest updates and research about blood cancers and blood disorders. The first episode will discuss CLL treatment, research and recent developments. It will also provide an overview of the hematology program at the OSUCCC – James and include a Q&A session.
Physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and patient navigators are encouraged to attend.

The chain of events favoring good functional outcomes from cardiovascular emergencies begins with diagnosis. These conditions range from acute aortic dissection, cardiogenic shock, coronary artery dissection, left atrial appendage occlusion, peripheral vascular disease, pulmonary embolism, STEMI, to stroke. Data shows that the public’s knowledge of these conditions warning signs remain poor. These conditions require quick assessment, diagnosis and treatment by a facility that can provide timely definitive care to minimize risk for preventable complications and death. Pre-hospital and inter-hospital triage, transport and treatment are critical to determine outcomes for these patients. New devices and drugs have been developed and are in the pipeline for most of these conditions. Technological advances in the management of these conditions may be unknown to clinicians outside of large academic medical centers. Information incorporated into this conference agenda will provide information regarding the most contemporary therapies and treatment modalities and how care providers can rapidly access necessary resources to provide expedient care for their patients.

Dr. Thakkar's research focuses on disturbances in the sense of self are a defining feature of schizophrenia. Predictive brain mechanisms, including corrollary discharge signals that convey information about planned actions are thought to help the brain distinguish self-generated from external events. Thalamic pathways play a key role within this broader sensorimotor network. This talk will present behavioral and neuroimaging findings that examine how these predictive processes operate in psychosis and will consider how such mechanisms may provide a framework for understanding self-related experiences and symptoms.
