The National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI) is celebrating its 10th anniversary, focusing on advancing innovation within nonprofit hospice organizations. NPHI, with over 120 nonprofit members caring for more than 580,000 patients, aims to lead in developing new care models, expanding access, and preparing for a value-based healthcare future.

CEO Tom Koutsoumpas shared the organization's origin story, noting that it was created to help community-based nonprofit hospice providers collaborate on innovative care approaches and remain ahead of the healthcare curve. NPHI has developed various initiatives, such as guides for cancer, dementia, heart care, and veterans' care, to improve patient care.

A significant focus is on reforming the Medicare Hospice Benefit to align with value-based care models while preserving essential hospice care components. However, nonprofit providers face challenges like rising care costs, competition from for-profit systems, and issues like fraud in the hospice sector. NPHI works actively with regulators to address these problems, ensuring that nonprofit hospice programs continue to deliver high-quality care to patients and families.
