Series Objectives
- Examine the evolving landscape of healthcare policy and funding—with a focus on federal changes—and evaluate their impact on substance use treatment, mental health services, and patient care delivery.
- Identify current drug trends, including synthetic opioids and counterfeit medications, and assess their implications for public health, emergency response, and patient safety.
- Explore interdisciplinary approaches to substance use disorders (SUDs), including integration of addiction treatment within primary and specialty care, such as oncology, emergency medicine, and palliative care.
- Strengthen collaborative strategies across healthcare systems and community organizations to enhance care coordination, reduce readmissions, and improve discharge processes for patients with addiction or co-occurring conditions.
- Apply evidence-based tools and frameworks—such as screening models, clinical ordersets, and engagement initiatives—to improve identification, treatment, and outcomes for individuals affected by substance use.
